Part 2 Organizing for the new year

Welcome to part 2 on getting your home organized in 2013. In part 1 I started with clothing organization for you closet. I inspired you with some celebrity closets. Well here are some more of my fave celeb pics of closets I love.

Nicky Hilton

I love the contrast of light against dark in this closet. Nicky chose dark hardwood floors to go with her white wardrobe and dresser. On my search for something similar I found the dresser below from IKEA. This particular dresser drawer, in the image below, has a dark finish but it has the same modern feel as the closet above.



This is the wardrobe option I found also from Ikea. Pair this look with a dark laminate floor and a white shag rug and you have a stylish dressing room.

Here is another option from Elfa. It's a dark chocolate cabinetry scheme against dark flooring with chrome accents. This is a more expensive option than the first but it also has that modern feel of the Nicky Hilton closet.

Boutique Style

This closet above has a boutique feel. It belongs to Olivia Wilde from the O.C. I also found a similar look from Ikea.

Kid's Clothing Closets

Children's closets can also be stylish. Here are two examples of a reach in and a walk-in closet.

Home Office

For your home office there are many organizers that can be color coordinated to your room. In the image above they used lime green.

Garage Organization

Using shelving in a garage as well as keeping like objects together will keep any space organized.

Playrooms/Craft rooms

These two examples show how plastic storage bins can keep toys and crafts organized as well as look good.

Laundry Room

Whether big or small a laundry room can look stylish with the use of paint, shelves and uniform storage components(baskets, plastic bins,etc)

How to transition a living room for the seasons

Seasonal decor for your living room can be a breeze once you know the rules. In this post I will show you how to change a room from Fall/Winter to Spring/Summer with the addition of certain elements. But before we start, first you must know the basics.

1. Make sure the furniture you purchase is the right scale for your room. Balance is key to pull off a successful design.
2.Start with a neutral streamlined sofa or chair with a tight back, you will be able to change their look with the addition of pillows.
3. Have fun with window treatments,select colors that highlight the season or use a neutral year round and change out your art.
4. For art have fun, for spring looks use floral prints or abstracts with spring colors.
5. Switch out your lamps, big box stores like Target, TJMaxx and Marshalls make it easy for you to have fun with new looks for the season.
6. Area rugs can change the look of a room instantly and can bring a cohesiveness to your accesories.
7. Accessorize end tables with interesting finds and experiment with color and texture.


Now lets use these basics in a room..... Below is an example of a Fall/Winter living room. The colors are muted. I selected colors in burnt oranges ,browns, reds and hints of yellow. The black drapes are my neutral that ground the room.


Now here is the same room below but lightened up for Spring/Summer. I used yellow as the main color with hints of aqua and green. The art was changed out and lightened up for the season. The lamp and pillows evoke a feeling of whimsy. I kept the floor lamp the same but bought in two ottomans to bring in the blue and balance the yellow flooring.

So as you can see with a few basics you too can transform your living room for the seasons. Have fun with it and let your creativity flow.

How to have the perfect "Mom Cave"

Oh! the mom cave a haven for us moms to get away from it all. With all the responsibilities moms have on their plates sometimes we just need a little me time. I believe every home should have an area reserved for us moms to regain our sanity. Here are some tips and tricks to achieving your own mom cave.

1. Start with paint. Pick a favorite color that you love to paint your walls.
2. If you can't decide on a color go to your favorite furniture, accessory or clothing store and pick up an inspiration item that you love and go with that color scheme.



3. Make sure you have a soft, comfortable area to sit with lots of pillows.

4. Make sure to also have an extra area of comfortable seating for your girlfriends to visit.

 5. Make sure to have a desk area to work on projects you love.

6. Have a place for all your hobbies and make sure it is organized. Organize your favorite magazines, novels or scrap booking supplies.
